Bud Differentiation
Majority of the mango varieties are prone to the phenomenon of biennial or alternate bearing and a certain amount of shoot maturity is an essential prerequisite to their flowering.
However, in case of regular bearing varieties this is no so and shoots of any size or maturity are capable of flowering and fruiting.
Flowering time is, therefore, closely linked with the time of flower bud differentiation which varies and the area where it is grown.
Researchers reported October to be the time of flower bud differentiation in mango under Florida conditions.
The differentiation of the inflorescence begins within a very short period before the expansion of the terminal buds from December to February and the process continues during the period of bud expansion.
